
María Martínez Ayerza (*1982) studied music in Cuenca, Seville and later in Amsterdam, where she graduated with a Master of Music degree in 2006. She is a versatile recorder professional active in diverse fields.
María has received several awards both as a soloist and with her ensembles, including the First Prize and the Walter Bergmann Prize of the Moeck/SRP Solo Recorder Competition in November 2005. She is a co-founder of ÆroDynamic (a trio of voice and two recorders that explores the combination of music with movement, theatrical elements, costumes and multimedia) and recorder quintet Seldom Sene. María has been a member of The Royal Wind Music since February 2001.
Given her wish to generate new audiences, María performs regularly for young children at nurseries, community centers and primary schools in cooperation with the Memorable Moments Foundation (Amsterdam) where she also assists the artistic management.
María was coordinator of the 1st European Recorder Performance Festival that took place in Amsterdam in November 2004. In January 2009 she joined the board of editors of Blokfluitist, the only specialized magazine about the recorder published in Dutch. In September 2009 she received a Master of Arts degree in Musicology (cum laude) from the University of Amsterdam, specializing in the role of classical music in popular culture.
